Enjoying a Grandma Snow Day

Brrrr! It's cold. Rick and I are so old, we thought we'd do a bit of Christmas shopping yesterday, so we left the house, drove down 93rd to 177th. Our driveway was totally iced over as was 93rd. We thought 177th would be better but when we got out there it was icy too. So,  we turned north on 177th turned east on 94th, back to 93rd, picked up the mail and headed right back up our driveway. Christmas shopping can just wait a few days. You  know you're getting old when you start thinking about how long it will take for bruises and broken bones to heal.

Today we got to enjoy Macey and Logan. Cindy had an appointment so she brought the kids over to spend the day.  They brought their sleds and had a great time going down our driveway. I watched them slide down a few times but it makes me so nervous, I was afraid they'd get hurt. If it were up to me all the grandchildren would live in a padded room and never leave it. I know that is not how I raised my boys but somehow it's different with the grands. They had a ball though, we could hear Macey squeeling every time she slid. I looked out one time and they were laying on their bellies on the plastic sleds, in the middle of the driveway just talking and giggling. Macey didn't ever want to come in but Logan got cold. We had lunch, they played some more outside then I made cookies for them. Actually, I was thinking that the three of us would make sugar cookies but Macey just wanted cookie dough, chocolate chip cookie dough, so they went outside again while I made cookie dough, oh, and baked the cookies. We each ate our share of dough. I know, there are raw eggs and butter and shortening in cookie dough, but we've been eating it for years with no ill effects. (Other than bellies and hips).

Macey all bundled up.

That masked man is Logan with Macey in tow.
Looks like a crash landing but was fun, if the laughter is any indication.
We all played with the hot wheels set today, my camera ran out of battery so I didn't get a pic of Logan. Papaw is putting together a complicated piece that lifts the cars and drops them down a shoot onto the track. We bought the car table a few years ago and had a box of pieces we'd forgotten about, well, those things are made more for adults than kids, they are so complicated to put together.

Our backyard was all aflutter with birds today. My favorite are cardinals, I counted 7 male cardinals and numerous females today. There were several other birds out there, I guess they are chickadees. Some were yellow and some were blue. I love it when it snows because the cardinals come in to the feeder and you can see them on the snow covered branches all over the yard. Hopefully we'll get a pic of that this winter.
We thought it was funny that Rick got a shot of a male cardinal, then a female, on the same tree stump. Aren't they pretty.

The bird pictures are dedicated to my "funny", red loving friend, Pam.

  1. Can I come over and play? Who doesn't love some sledding and chocolate chip cookie dough? I'm with Macey - I LOVE that stuff. I think it's my favorite dessert. You have to be the best grandma ever! (my mom just might disagree with that)

  2. Logan looks like he's ready to go rob a bank with that mask...I bet it kept him warm in this freezing weather. The pictures of the birds are so pretty. I like how you fixed your comments so the music keeps playing while you comment. How did you do that?

  3. Okie... sorry about that. I have been trying to post to your blog and it wouldn't let me. I kept typing out these long comments and then it wouldn't let me post it and it would delete it all! Anyway... thank you so much for yesterday! They had a blast and had lots of great sledding stories. Macey almost slid into the pond... so I heard : ) ha ha!
